Liverpool are in advanced talks with Nike over a new long-term kit deal that could become the biggest in Premier League history, according to ESPN.

The Reds are understood to be negotiating with the sportswear giant over a deal that could exceed the £750million, 10 year contract that Manchester United currently have with Adidas.

Liverpool’s current deal with New Balance is said to be worth around £45million-per-year, but the club have been eager to maximise their revenue with their current deal due to run out at the end of the 2019/20 season.

OPINION

This would be a massive, massive deal for the Reds, and is a sure sign of their credentials and intentions as a European super giant. To exceed the £750million-a-year deal that Man United currently have with Adidas would be some achievement, and could be viewed as an indication of just how big Liverpool have become again under Jurgen Klopp. It’s hard to imagine a deal of this size being in the offing even five years ago, but now, with success surely just around the corner in one form or another, and with people starting to realise that this Liverpool side are the real deal once more, a deal of this size seems fitting. The Reds are starting to look like the superpower they once were, and bringing in this kind of revenue, plus the status that would accompany it, is a really promising sign.
