Former Liverpool favourite Ronny Rosenthal has claimed the Reds’ current squad is their best ever.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are still in the hunt for both domestic and European glory, and Rosenthal believes that if they can secure a title, they will go down in Kop history.
Speaking to the Telegraph, he said: “To me, the Liverpool team today is the best Liverpool team ever. I know you will say look at what all those teams won.
“Yes, they were the best of their time. But the game has changed. There is more athleticism now, more tactical understanding and speed, so these players are better.
“But that does not mean they will be remembered the same. To do that, they must win and put a stamp it.”

Rosenthal actually raises a very interesting point here. On a toe-to-toe, game by game basis, this probably is the best Liverpool team ever. The nature of the modern game, the physicality and the endurance required to even compete at the highest level, means that they would almost certainly outstrip most Reds’ sides through the years, and those that could match them for fitness would probably be undone by the sheer quality of Salah, Mane, Firmino and co. That being said, he is absolutely right argue that all of that amounts to very little if they are unable to lift a trophy. Ultimately, sides aren’t compared against other sides from different eras, they are compared against their contemporaries, and while this team probably would beat the 2005 Champions League winning team, for example, they will not be held in the same regard until they themselves go out and repeat the feat, or better yet, win the league. So from that perspective, while you can see where Rosenthal is coming from, to claim the current Liverpool team are the best ever, is bold to say the least.
