Alan Shearer named Liverpool duo Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah in his latest Premier League Team of the Week but there was no room for defender Andy Robertson.

The Premier League icon included Henderson and Salah for their performances in the 3-1 win over Southampton and was asked by a supporter where the left-back was in his latest line-up.

Shearer issued a cheeky response to Robertson’s omission by pointing out that he thought the 25-year-old was probably getting ready for the game.

“Getting ready for the game,” replied Shearer, via his personal Instagram account.

OPINION

Shearer loves issuing cheeky responses when his Team of the Week lines-up get questioned, but his joke missed the mark this time. Shearer claimed Robertson was likely getting ready for the Reds’ clash with Porto, the only problem is the left-back isn’t set to feature for Jurgen Klopp’s team on Tuesday. The left-back is suspended for the clash so most likely doesn’t really have a lot of preparing to do when it comes to sitting in the stands. Aside from Shearer’s classic comeback about Robertson missing the mark, it’s easy to see why a fan enquired why the left-back didn’t make the cut. The 25-year-old was in top-form against the Saints on Friday and was worthy of a place. However that said Shearer did opt to pick Everton’s Lucas Digne for his performance against Arsenal, and the France international was fantastic in that clash. You feel it would have been a difficult decision for Shearer to choose between the two, but Liverpool fans are no doubt aware that Robertson is likely to make Shearer’s TOTW before the season ends.
