If Rhian Brewster hadn’t sustained that dreadful ankle injury last January, who knows where he would be right now.

The teenager is one of the most precocious youngsters to have come out of Liverpool’s academy system in recent times, but has had to endure a torrid spell on the sidelines as he has fought his way back to fitness, and into contention for a senior squad place.

Brewster is so promising that it is not out of the question to believe that he would have already made his first team bow had it not been for that injury, following in the footsteps of Trent Alexander-Arnold and other bright young things like Curtis Jones.

Now, however, Brewster is back, and he looks ready as ever to make the impression that it is widely expected he will.

The 19-year-old scored a brace on his return to U23s action last Friday, with his first coming from a delightful, curling effort from distance.

If that wasn’t enough to catch the eye then his commitment and dedication to come back stronger than ever certainly has.

As reported by the Echo, Brewster’s return to fitness hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Jurgen Klopp’s latest comments will leave him dizzy with excitement.

The German said: “It was good to see Rhian back.

“It’s nice having him in training. It was his birthday this week, 19 years old, crazy. So much to come. Get him fit, keep him fit and then the door is wide open for him.”

That kind of incentive is enough to motivate anybody, but you get the impression that the 5’8″ striker [Transfermarkt] would put in the hard work even if a first team place was a long way off.

His attitude is exemplary, he is a well-liked figure around Melwood, and now that he has come back looking stronger and sharper than ever, it is not unimaginable to think that he could be given the nod before the end of this season.
