Fulham spell surely last straw for Markovic

OPINION

Remember Lazar Markovic, Liverpool fans? You would be forgiven if he had slipped from your memory.

He signed for the Reds back in 2014, but he has hardly made an impact since and has been shipped out on loan at every given opportunity – most recently in January to relegated Premier League club Fulham.

The Cottagers must have been hoping that they had got themselves a real talent. Well, they thought wrong, as the 25-year-old has only managed to make one appearance for them despite signing a few months ago.

If Markovic cannot even make a mark at a club who struggled to keep up with the standard of the top-flight, surely his Liverpool career is pretty much dead and buried?

This loan spell was no doubt a chance to revive what he had left at Anfield. Instead of that, it must be the last straw in terms of his future on Merseyside.

He has failed to make an impact wherever he has been farmed out on loan too, which must mean that he must be heading for the permanent exit in the summer. However, his non-existent stint in West London would not have done him any favours in the slightest, as it means that he is unlikely to attract any clubs willing to take a punt on him.

Just what do Liverpool do with him then? Obviously there is no way that Jurgen Klopp would be willing to hand him a chance, so it looks like he will be condemned to the under-23s once again if the club cannot find a club willing to take him on.

Either way, his career with Liverpool is now definitely dead and buried after such a disappointing loan spell, and it is clear that he is certainly not Premier League standard. He has not been that for a very long time.
