OPINION

Things are getting pretty make or break for Liverpool now.

The Reds are within touching distance of European and domestic glory this season, but it could very much be a case of all or nothing as the end of the campaign looms large.

If they are to go all the way in either, or both, competitions that they are still in contention for, however, they will need all the help they can get.

Fans should be dancing in the streets, therefore, at the news that Joe Gomez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Rhian Brewster all started for the U23 on Sunday afternoon, as confirmed by the Reds’ official Twitter.

The trio have been touted for imminent returns for some time now, but this would seemingly be the biggest step yet towards concrete proof that a first team inclusion is on the cards.

Of those three, Brewster is obviously the junior figure, and his time might have to wait until next season, but with regards the Gomez and the Ox, having those two back will be a massive boost for the Reds.

Gomez was forming a really solid partnership with Virgil van Dijk prior to his injury, and while Joel Matip has done a decent enough job, there can be little doubt about who Jurgen Klopp’s first choice would be if he had all of his options available.

As for Oxlade-Chamberlain, his energy and attacking threat could be the secret ingredient that Liverpool have missed at times this season, and of they could get that dynamo purring in the engine room, you would fancy them to rip up trees on the run in.
