OPINION

Is there anything that Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson cannot do at the moment?

The 28-year-old has been in awe-inspiring form recently, and it looks like that he has fully regained his confidence after Jurgen Klopp harshly axed him not long ago.

However, the mainstay – who has 37 appearances to his name this season – has bounced back better than he has ever been, blowing everyone away with his displays against the likes of Chelsea last Sunday.

Klopp chose not to start the former Sunderland man on Wednesday in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Porto, and to be honest, the manager must have wished that he played Henderson from the start.

Gini Wijnaldum was below par, and James Milner’s quality was never quite there before he moved to the left-back spot when Andy Robertson was substituted – basically, the midfield got overwhelmed with the onslaught the opposition condemned them to.

Fabinho was the one stand out player in the middle of the park, but it looked like he struggled without Henderson playing alongside him. Put it this way, starring alongside Milner and Wijnaldum is not something that he has been too used to this term.

This why Klopp must recall Henderson back against Cardiff on Sunday, as it was clear that extra bit of energy was missing before his introduction on Wednesday – the fact that he provided a sublime cross for Roberto Firmino to score basically summed up that he should have started in the first place.

Milner does not provide the same type of energy that Henderson brings to the midfield, and this should be the thing that gets him the nod over his English teammate.

Henderson produced yet another masterclass with his cameo, and he must be starting on Sunday in order to heap more misery on the Bluebirds.
