OPINION
Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum produced a woeful performance in his team’s 4-1 win over Porto on Wednesday night. It was clear from the moment that the teams were revealed that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had gone for a safety first approach with his line up, with a midfield pairing of Wijnaldum and James Milner being the biggest give away. Both struggled immensely in Portugal. Wijnaldum, in particular, doesn’t look like his usual self at this point. Perhaps he’s tired from a long season, where he has consistently been the first name on the team sheet for Klopp as far as midfielders are concerned, but his form has dipped dramatically in recent months. He’s not got the same energy or the same intensity to his game. With that being the case it was a big surprise to see him start ahead of Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita. The decision looked even more baffling after his performance. He needs some more rest, because clearly he is not at 100% at the moment.

Awful performance here. What are Milner and Wijnaldum doing? TAA and Robertson really bad too.

Can't carry two empty shirts in Milner and Wijnaldum.

If Wijnaldum and Milner are still Liverpool players next season we are not a serious club.

Wijnaldum and Milner well off the pace. Fabinho having to do so much work. Need to play smart here, just kill the tempo, keep the ball.

Wijnaldum has been shocking so far, needs more help from Fab and Milly so he can make the simple passes
