OPINION
If a decision is controversial enough to still stir up emotions and boil blood 14 years after the fact, you can bet that it was about as contentious as they come. That was definitely the case with Luis Garcia’s “ghost goal” against Chelsea in the 2005 Champions League semi-final. The Spaniard just about scored one of the most controversial goals in recent history, a strike so disputable that it literally coined the term so often used to describe it. Garcia, for his part, seems to absolutely love the legend that has become attached to the incident, and wasted no time in reminding the Blues of it in the build up to Sunday’s clash at Anfield. The former Liverpool man took to Twitter to post a photo of the goal, much to the delight of Reds fans everywhere. At the end of the day, this kind of thing, usually construed as arrogance or something similar, is more than justified given the extent of the mockery Liverpool have had to face in the build up to this one. The match draws obvious parallels to the one that saw Steven Gerrard’s tragically iconic slip in 2014, and there has been a fair amount of attention focused on that, whether it be by fans, pundits, an even mainstream media outlets. Why shouldn’t Garcia hit back?
