Liverpool forked out a lot of money for goalkeeper Alisson in last summer’s transfer window, and it is safe to say that he has realised the expectations of fans everywhere.

After Loris Karius’ mistakes in the Champions League Final last May, Jurgen Klopp was in the hunt for a keeper to replace him, and he seems to have found the perfect player in the shape of the Brazilian.

Since his arrival, the Reds have conceded fewer goals than they did last season, and some of the skill he has displayed with the ball at his feet has been incredible and has no doubt drawn comparisons to that of an outfield player.

He has certainly won over the hearts of the supporters over the course of the campaign, which is why they will be left scratching their heads after Danny Murphy and Jermaine Jenas’ verdicts on the 26-year-old.

“Both sides have tremendous goalkeepers. Alisson and Ederson are equals in shot stopping and coming for crosses, but I’d give Ederson the edge on his distribution. He’s unbelievable with his feet,” the BBC pundit told the Daily Mail.

“Sounds like one of your comparisons, Murph! It surprises me Brazil start with Alisson. As a complete keeper, Ederson is better with his feet,” Jenas – who is also a BBC pundit – responded.

Alisson has been absolutely outstanding this season, that is for sure – and the fans would not be as half as confident as they are about conceding less with him in the side.

There is no doubting the ability of the Manchester City keeper, but Alisson has rightly earned the spot in the Brazil national team based on the fantastic form he has been in. There is only one spot, and unfortunately, Ederson has to be sacrificed as a result.

Either way, many Liverpool fans are going to be rather baffled at this claim.
