Liverpool have been linked with a summer move for Ajax defender Noussair Mazraoui and the signing of the starlet would surely signal an end to Nathaniel Clyne’s Anfield career.

Clyne has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool this year after being sent out on loan to fellow Premier League club, Bournemouth, and with Marca suggesting that the Reds are keen on the 21-year-old Champions League semi finalist, his future looks bleak.

The fact he was allowed to leave the title challengers with little options in defence demonstrates he was not favoured by Jurgen Klopp and after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury earlier in the season James Milner was forced to fill in the role at right back.

Klopp has been bold in his squad selection this season and it has paid off continuously, even when not having a back-up full back to choose from.

Liverpool have benefitted from having two great attacking options from full-back this season. Both Andrew Robertson and Alexander-Arnold top of the chart for the most assists from defence in one season.

Nathaniel Clyne does not have the same output in the final third and Liverpool would notice a huge difference if he was still at the club now.

Meanwhile Mazraoui has been a revelation for Ajax this season, scoring in the Champions League against Bayern Munich and helping his side to the semi-finals.

Nathaniel Clyne’s departure would free up his £70,ooo-a-week contract (Source: Spotrac), a sum of money that would be smarter to use on a Ajax wonderkid who has also caught the attention of rivals, Manchester United.

His attacking threat is much more suited to Liverpool’s marauding style of play and Clyne must realise his days at Anfield are numbered.
