Liverpool legend John Aldridge has said that he expects Reds youngster Rhian Brewster to make a first team breakthrough next season.

The striker has long been touted for a spot in Jurgen Klopp’s side, and Aldridge believes he will be a key factor in the club’s summer transfer policy.

“Looking at it, I reckon you could be looking at about four or five players who will be moving on and they will need replacing with quality to push on,” he wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“The owners, FSG, have shown they aren’t afraid to back Jurgen in the transfer market and I think they will bring in some top-drawer back-up along with exciting young players like Rhian Brewster.”

OPINION

It’s going to be an interesting summer for Liverpool. After Manchester City’s win over Leicester City on Monday all but assured that the Reds wouldn’t be tasting Premier League glory this term, Klopp will need to look at his squad and contemplate where he can strengthen to ensure his team go one better next time out. Aldridge is right, probably four or five players will be moved on and then it’s about replacing them with better quality. One of those who looks set to depart is striker Daniel Sturridge, who’s contract is up at the end of the campaign. However, Aldridge clearly thinks that Brewster could be the man to step up and fill his compatriot’s boots. That will likely be an ideal scenario for the Liverpool faithful, who have been waiting years for Brewster to truly break through. He’s got an excellent record at youth level for club and country and, now that he’s fit again, it’s time to see what he can do for the senior side. Hopefully we get the chance to find out next season.
