Championship giants Aston Villa have made contact with Liverpool over winger Ryan Kent, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon revealed the news on his personal Twitter account on Sunday, claiming that the Villans have been onto Liverpool about the 22-year-old, who is thought to be aware of their interest.

The Englishman was involved in 15 goals while on loan with Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side this season, finding the back of the net six times and bagging nine assists.

OPINION

This is an interesting one. Kent obviously showed real promise in Glasgow this campaign and his stock has gone up hugely as a result. However, is he really going to become a fixture of the Liverpool first team in the years to come? That still seems rather unlikely. He’s a talented youngster, but Jurgen Klopp’s team are just a different level at the moment. If the Reds can cash in on him while they have the chance, then they should ensure they do just that. Perhaps Aston Villa could be where he ends up, then. Dean Smith’s side will be looking to reinforce their squad whether they secure promotion to the Premier League or not in the Play Off final on Monday. However, you’d have to think that they’d be far likelier to spend what Liverpool want on Kent if they do come up to the top flight. Villa Park would be a good landing spot for the winger, too. He’d have a far better chance of first team football than he would at Anfield, while still playing his football for a big club. What’s not to like?
