Liverpool will demand £15million for back up goalkeeper Simon Mignolet this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Reds will be after the hefty fee for the Belgian, despite him spending the season warming the bench for number one Alisson.

He is expected to do so once again in the Champions League final in June, but will be allowed to leave Anfield this summer after a wasted year for him.

However, he will only do so for the right price, with Jurgen Klopp’s team having a reputation as notoriously tough negotiators.

OPINION

This is the biggest fee we’ve seen in connection with Mignolet, and you begin to wonder whether the former Sunderland man will be priced out of a move away from the club. Yes, he’s a decent ‘keeper with many years left ahead of him, but £15million is quite the fee to spend on someone who’s made only two appearances this campaign. It will be interesting to see just how much of a market there is out there for Mignolet, who could still start for a lot of teams in both the Premier League and abroad. You’d think that £15million would scare a lot of teams off, but as the report states, Liverpool are adept at getting what they want when they sell players. They extracted £27million from Crystal Palace for an out of favour centre back in Mamadou Sakho, while they secured a big fee for striker Dominic Solanke in January despite him not being part of Klopp’s plans. So they will haggle and, if history tells us anything, they will probably get what they’re after for Mignolet.
