Liverpool have beaten Manchester United to the signature of teenage goalkeeper Jakub Ojrzynski, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the Reds have won the race for the 16-year-old, having agreed personal terms with him and a £200,000 fee with his club Legia Warsaw.

Both Liverpool and United have been tracking the player, but Ojrzynski now looks set to jet in to Merseyside to put pen to paper on a deal with the Anfield giants.

The Reds are thought to view the young Pole as a hugely promising ‘keeper who could eventually be a first team player for them.

OPINION

It’s always good for top teams to tie down young talent, particularly when they beat their fierce rivals to the punch. Ojrzynski isn’t a name that most people will be familiar with, nor this writer in all honesty, but you can’t go wrong bringing in promising young players for small transfer fees. Whether they eventually go on to be first team players, or they simply move on in a few years time, it’s pretty much a win for Liverpool either way. £200,000 is pocket change for the Reds, let’s be honest, so even if Ojrzynski completely fails to build on his potential, it won’t really matter too much in the grand scheme of things. However, if he does go on to fulfil his promise and become a first team player, then Jurgen Klopp’s side are onto a winner. This is simply the sort of move that smart clubs make. It’s always a good idea to look to the future, there’s no doubt about that, and that’s what Liverpool are doing here.
