Former England international Danny Mills has picked out midfielders Fabinho and Naby Keita as being two ‘key men’ for Liverpool next season.

The duo were brought in for big money last summer and, after struggling to gets to grips with English football, began to become vital elements of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Mills has had his say: “The front three are absolutely outstanding, the midfield you can maybe tweak it, but Liverpool have a potentially exceptional midfield, with Naby Keita and Fabinho now settled in the Premier League and likely to be key men,” he told Football Insider.

“[Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain is coming back as well and he will add something different with his driving runs from midfield. He can be an exceptional player for them next season. Can they unearth a gem to add to the mix this summer? Maybe. But, who is going to be happy to play second fiddle? It’s going to be very difficult to find anyone better than who they have without spending massive money.”

OPINION

You would expect both Fabinho and Keita to make big strides next season. To be fair to the former, he had a rocky first couple of months on Merseyside before quickly establishing himself as a crucial player for Klopp’s team. For Keita, though, it took a bit longer for him to make his mark. It was only in the last couple of months of the campaign that he began looking like the player Liverpool thought they were signing from RB Leipzig. If he can kick on from there next season then the Reds are onto a winner. We pretty much know that Fabinho is going to be excellent, as well. As for Oxlade-Chamberlain, he could be the big difference for Liverpool next time out. The England international is a tremendous talent who has made great strides under Klopp. If he can stay fit then he could be the man to drive the team one further in the Premier League next term.
