Darren Anderton has suggested that Tottenham hold an advantage over Liverpool in the attacking third ahead of the Champions League final in Madrid.

Both Liverpool and Tottenham could be boosted for the Champions League final clash at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, with Roberto Firmino set to return from injury for Jurgen Klopp’s side  and Harry Kane thought to be likely to be fit to play apart in the game for Spurs.

Anderton praised Liverpool’s attacking trio of Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, but suggested that he believes Tottenham’s own trio of Kane, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Min will be the ones to make the decisive impact in the Champions League final.

“Kane needs to start, Son has been a revelation this season, and Eriksen is the one, for me, who really makes everything tick for Spurs in terms of creating chances,” Anderton told the Evening Standard.

“I think Dele could play a deeper role, some will argue that in doing so, you don’t get the best out of him and it could leave Tottenham quite exposed to Liverpool’s incredible front three.

“Ultimately, it is the front players on both teams that will make the difference, the attacking players on each team have the individual ability that can win the game and I think Tottenham just about edge Liverpool in that department.”

OPINION

It will be very interesting to see who will come out on top in the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham, with Klopp’s side potentially slight favourites heading into the game having beaten Spurs twice in the Premier League this season. As Anderton suggests the game could be decided by which teams quality attacking players manage to stamp their authority on the match, with Liverpool’s trio of Mane, Salah and Firmino used to firing in the big occasions. Tottenham’s own attack has real quality with the returning Kane providing another option for Pochettino, after the England international’s replacement Lucas Moura scored a crucial hat-trick against Ajax in the semi-finals to fire Spurs to the final. Anderton’s belief that Tottenham’s attacking players will manage to have the greater impact on the final, will be strongly disagreed with by Reds supporters, who will be equally as confident that their front three can be the ones to make the decisive impact.
