Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno could potentially be leaving Anfield this summer, with the pair out of contract at the end of the season.

The duo have been largely peripheral figures for Liverpool this season, with Klopp limiting Sturridge to just 18 Premier League appearances and Moreno to only two appearances, as the Reds chase the Premier League title.

Sturridge has started recent games against Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United, but the England international has struggled to regain his best form after a string of injuries, and Roberto Firmino is by far and away Klopp’s preferred striker.

Moreno meanwhile has lost his place in the Liverpool side to Andrew Robertson, and the faith of Klopp with the German preferring to play James Milner at left-back instead of the Spaniard in Robertson’s absence.

Klopp has now admitted that Liverpool’s clash against Wolves on Sunday could be their final games as Liverpool players, if they feature.

“It’s possible [this is their last game]. We will see. I don’t talk about contracts even if they finish after the season,” Klopp said, as quoted on Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre on Friday [12:37pm].

“It’s not the time for these things. The only important thing is the players we know and we know, not the rest of the world.”

OPINION

It appears as though both Sturridge and Moreno will both be departing Anfield this summer, with neither player likely to receive an offer to extend their contracts that end at the end of the season. Sturridge will always be fondly remembered by Liverpool supporters, after the England international was part of the Reds side that came so close to winning the Premier League title under Brendan Rodgers in the 2013/14 season. The Englishman formed an excellent partnership with both Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling during that season, and scored 21 goals for Liverpool during that season. However, he has been hampered by injuries in recent seasons and that has seen his importance to Klopp’s side diminish with Firmino the preferred option up front. Moreno meanwhile has struggled to convince Liverpool supporters since he joined the club from Sevilla. Both players are likely to have to find new a new club this summer as their time Anfield looks to be over.
