Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has been included in Jurgen Klopp’s 26-man squad for a training camp in Marbella ahead of the Reds’ Champions League final against Tottenham, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The outlet report that Kieta is thought to be ahead of schedule on his recovery, after being forced off the field with an injury during Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final first leg meeting with Barcelona.

Klopp is believed to be wanting to keep the midfielder involved in and around his squad, with the Guinea international continuing a rehabilitation plan with the club’s fitness coaching staff this week.

OPINION

Klopp is right to want to keep Keita in and around the Liverpool squad during the Reds training camp ahead of their Champions League final clash with Tottenham. The midfielder has developed into an important player in Klopp’s side over the course of the season, after initially struggling in the first few months of the campaign as he looked to adapt to the physical nature of the Premier League. The news about the Guinea international being closer to returning to fitness than it was thought he would be at this stage, will be a boost for Liverpool heading into the summer. Although his presence will be missed in the Champions League final, Klopp including him in the training camp in Marbella will help keep the midfielder feeling he is part of the occasion, even if it is only a watching brief. Liverpool will hope that Keita is able to make a full recovery in time for the start of the Reds pre season campaign, as they look to build on an impressive season and challenge for major silverware again next term.
