Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has praised the atmosphere Reds supporters created during the Champions League semi-final second leg comeback win against Barcelona.

Alisson, who was on the losing side at Anfield in last season’s Champions League semi-finals with his former club Roma, has been an ever present for Jurgen Klopp’s side throughout the Reds’ impressive campaign, which has seen them record 97 points in the Premier League and reach successive Champions League finals.

The Brazilian has now opened up about his thoughts on Liverpool’s dramatic 4-0 second leg win over Barcelona at Anfield, which saw Klopp’s side overturn a 3-0 defeat in Spain to advance to the final in Madrid, and suggested that the fans played a big part in the historic turnaround.

“I played here against Liverpool and I experienced the power that the fans gave to the team on the pitch. They put a lot of pressure on you, it’s not easy playing here against our team,” Alisson told The Express.

“Now that I’m playing here I’ve experienced the amazing things that we have achieved in this Champions League, qualifying for the final in the way that we did, returning from a difficult defeat that many thought was impossible.

“It was achievable through God’s blessing, the work that we put in and a lot of dedication, plus the support from the fans on the night which was incredible.”

OPINION

Alisson is right to praise the Liverpool supporters for the atmosphere they generated around Anfield during the Reds’ 4-0 Champions League semi-final second leg win against Barcelona. Having been on the receiving end of the intense atmosphere at Anfield whilst playing for Roma, as Liverpool won 5-2 in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals last season, Alisson will have been glad to have the supporters on his side this time around. The Brazilian is also right to acknowledge that nobody was really expecting Liverpool to produce the comeback they did on the night against Barcelona, but with the help of the supporters and an excellent performance they managed to pull off a historic win. Anfield has become a very difficult place for opposing teams to come and perform in the last few years, with Klopp’s side being unbeaten at home in the Premier League all season. That is something Liverpool will be hoping to continue next season and they will once again need the support of their fans to achieve that. However, for now the Reds will be concentrating on the Champions League final clash against Tottenham in Madrid and hoping to go one better than last season, when they were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid.
