Liverpool are facing a dilemma over the future of striker Divock Origi with the Belgian’s place at Anfield next season in doubt, according to a report from the Liverpool Echo.

Origi has had mixed season so far, with the Belgium international being instrumental in securing vital late wins for Liverpool against Everton and Newcastle, but the 24-year-old has been limited to just 12 Premier League appearances with only three starts amongst those.

It is understood that Liverpool are likely to add to their attacking options in the summer, with Roberto Firmino’s recent injury highlighting the Reds’ need for more attacking options, and Jurgen Klopp will have to decide whether to keep Origi at the club if they bring in a new forward this summer.

The Belgian could potentially start against Barcelona in the second leg of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final clash with the Spanish side, with Firmino ruled out, with Klopp’s decision over who to start in the Brazilian’s absence maybe providing an indication over the future of Origi.

OPINION

Origi’s contribution to Liverpool’s season have been both minimal, and gigantic, with the Belgian making few appearances in the Premier League, but also managing to score two goals that earned the Reds’ two potentially crucial wins over Everton and Newcastle. The Belgium international started the season somewhat in the wilderness at Anfiled, having failed to really impress during a loan spell with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg last season. There was varied speculation as to whether Origi would be sold in the summer, but with no move forthcoming he has knuckled down and fought to have an impact on the Reds’ campaign. That is something that Origi deserves credit for, with the 24-year-old always available to contribute when called on by Jurgen Klopp. It is that attitude that has endeared himself to Liverpool supporters, and if he was to depart in the summer there would be few Reds supporters who would not wish him good fortune at his new club.
