Reliable journalist Alan Nixon has given his verdict on the future of James Milner and suggests that it is unlikely that he will be leaving Liverpool for Leeds United in the summer.

Milner began his career at Leeds, and he always been open about his love of the club so with his Reds’ contract ending; it wouldn’t have been a surprise for him to return to Elland Road.

In a tweet posted from Leeds United’s Twitter account back in 2018, Milner had a message for the Yorkshire club.

“Been a fan since I was a kid, lucky enough to see them win a league title and get to a Champions League semi-final.” said Milner.

This is one of the reasons why it has been speculated so much that he could possibly finish his career at Leeds United, however Nixon was quick to shut the idea down when asked about it on Twitter on Monday.

In a post from his personal Twitter account, Nixon said: “I’m told it’s unlikely.”

This is a good sign for Liverpool fans, and means that they could have the 33-year old for another season at least, whether they win the Champions League or not.

Milner is an important player for the Reds, and has shown exactly what he can bring to the table this season after being used in two different positions.

The 33-year old has appeared 34 times for the Reds in the Premier League this season, which shows that he still has lots of football left in him.

Although there is some confusion on when Milner’s contract ends, Transfermrkt claim that the midfielder’s contract ends in 2019, however there it is also believed it could end in 2020.

Jurgen Klopp likes using Milner because of his versatility, and his ability to play in different positions on the pitch when called upon, and there aren’t too many players able to do what he does in this Liverpool side.

This could be another main reason for the Englishman to stay at the Merseyside club for another season at least, as he may be needed next season for squad rotation, even if he doesn’t remain a regular starter for the Reds.

Many Liverpool fans are surely thrilled that a possible switch to Leeds is off the cards for Milner as it means if the Reds offer him a new contract he is more likely to accept as the club he supports aren’t an option.
