Liverpool are in the hunt to sign Lausanne youngster Joel Ribeiro in the summer, according to CalcioMercato.
Swiss club Lausanne are yet to offer Ribeiro a full time professional contract at the club and are still interested in keeping him in Switzerland’s top-flight. Ribeiro, 16, is capped at youth international level by the Swiss and plays in attacking midfield.
The Italian outlet claim Liverpool will face strong competition from Serie A clubs including Inter Milan and Atalanta.
There have been a couple of links this week suggesting that Liverpool are in the market for young players who can improve their academy. As-well as Ribeiro, the club was also linked with a move for Dutch youngster Xavier Mbuyamba from Maastricht. These moves are all well and good, especially for the future but every fan involved will want to see progression being made on more senior moves. Ribeiro is also wanted by a host of big Italian clubs, with his link to Inter Milan suggesting he is a great young talent. Liverpool’s progression up the league and also in Europe in the Champions League could be a big turning point for a young talent who would want to play in those sort of competitions every single year. At 16-years-old Ribeiro could settle for what he has and for his home comforts in Switzerland. Not many youngsters get the opportunity to join a top European club like Liverpool when they’re playing in the Swiss youth leagues and Ribeiro should definitely take the plunge.
