Liverpool are readying to make an offer for RC Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez according to GOL Digital.

The Spanish publication claimed that both Liverpool and Premier League rivals Tottenham are both willing to meet the Uruguayan international’s release clause of £43million.

The Reds are said to be battling their Champions League final opposition for the signature of Gomez who has also been a reported target for fellow Premier League club West Ham in the past, with his physical prowess reportedly earning him the nickname of ‘The Bull’.

Gomez, 22, has been in great form for Celta Vigo this season and has been involved in 18 goals in 33 appearances. The young forward has also established himself in his international side since joining the Spanish club and would be seen as good cover for Roberto Firmino.

OPINION

The Spanish publication makes it clear in their report that Gomez would be seen as cover to compete with Liverpool’s prolific front three. That is clearly needed for Jurgen Klopp who does not possess one of the deepest squad’s in the Premier League but has made it work with the resources he has, with Divock Origi being his current replacement striker. Gomez would be the ideal signing should that be the case, a young hungry striker who has really settled in to a forward role at Celta Vigo alongside former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas. With 11 caps at international level since 2017, Gomez’ progression has been quick through the ranks after moving to Spain at 20-years-old. His powerful stature has earned him comparison’s to Luis Suarez and also gave him the nickname of ‘el Toro’ or ‘the bull’. This signature would be a smart piece of business by Jurgen Klopp and would give Gomez the chance to earn his merit at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
