Liverpool are reportedly in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez after his loan spell with Bayern Munich has come to an end, according to The Mirror.

The newspaper claim that Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are the three Premier League clubs currently in the race for the Colombian’s signature, but may face extra competition from overseas clubs in the form of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Daily Mirror report that Madrid are keen to move Rodriguez, who has 70 caps for Columbia, on in order to increase their transfer kitty ahead of a summer overhaul.

Rodriguez has decided not to pursue his career with Bayern Munich in the summer, and look to be seeking a new challenge ahead of the upcoming season, according to Sky Germany.

The 27-year old was sent out on loan to the German giants back in 2017, after failing to make a real impact in Madrid, and is now looking for something new next season.

OPINION

Rodriguez hasn’t had the easiest of rides over the last few years, and although it could be argued that he has still been playing for some top clubs, he hasn’t really managed to cement himself in the first team on a regular basis with any of these club. There is no doubting the 27-year old’s ability, and a move to the Premier League could quite possibly be the perfect move for Rodriguez. The Colombian has managed seven goals and four assists in the Bundesliga this season with Bayern, but has only featured 20 times for the German giants. Arguably, if the his appearances were doubled, and he was given constant first-team action, he could be the type of technical midfielder to produce incredible stats regarding goal creation, but it seems he just needs a manager who will have faith in him and make him a regular starter. Liverpool should definitely be keeping an eye on Rodriguez, especially considering there seem to be a number of other clubs also searching for his eventual signature.
