OPINION

Harry Redknapp has been around the block a bit.

The veteran manager may not have taken the hot seat anywhere since getting the boot from Birmingham City back in 2017, but it’s fair to say that prior to that dismissal he was a very busy man.

Now though, at the age of 72, and with a jungle crown under his belt, it’s probably quite likely that Redknapp’s days in the dugout have come to an end.

He has admitted, however, that there would be one club that could tempt him back to the game.

Speaking to Yahoo Sports UK, as quoted by the Express, he said: “If you’d have asked me I would have loved to have managed Liverpool.

“I don’t know, there’s an atmosphere, the other night when they were singing. It makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand, it really does.

“I just think it’s an amazing place to be. The atmosphere is different to anywhere else.”

Now, obviously, this is never going to happen. Nobody is advocating dethroning Jurgen Klopp in favour of old ‘Arry.

But it does tell you a lot about where Liverpool are right now.

The fact that Redknapp, a legend of the modern game, claims that he could only ever be tempted back to the touchline by Liverpool and Liverpool alone speaks volumes as to the stature of the club.

For ages, the Reds were a sleeping giant; underperforming, underwhelming, it was their history and nothing more that just about kept them at the top table.

All of that has changed now.

Jurgen Klopp has turned this team into one of the very best around, and if Redknapp’s comments show us anything, it’s that the Reds are an elite club.

Ignore the fact that Redknapp is a reality TV star whose days in the game are gone, and just bask in the glow of such a massive compliment from a real favourite.
