Everton defender Seamus Coleman has given his verdict on Liverpool ahead of their Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Toffees player explained the frustration of the Everton faithful regarding Liverpool’s recent European success, but insisted that he respects what they’ve been doing as a club.

The 30-year old went on to describe Liverpool’s two-legged fixture with Barcelona as incredible, before explaining how this year’s Champions League final is good for the Premier League.

“Look, obviously every Everton fan, every Everton player are going to want their rivals not to win.” said Coleman to Sky Sports News (Thursday May 3rd, 21:36).

“As players, we respect what they’ve done as a team.

“What they did against Barcelona was incredible.

“Let the best team win, if that’s Liverpool or Tottenham then so be it, it’s good for the Premier League.”

OPINION

It’s always a pleasure for fans to see a player from your rival club talking about your side and not theirs, and in this case Liverpool fans will have no choice but to agree with the Everton man. It’s clear to see that Coleman rates Liverpool, and he doesn’t really have much of a choice in the matter with the Reds being in the Champions League final, and subsequently finishing second in the Premier League. Arguably, Liverpool are head and shoulders above Everton at the moment, and it’s easy to see that even the Everton players realise this too. However, the Toffees’ defender also mentioned how this will effect the Premier League, and the final of the Champions League will no doubt be brilliant for English football, no matter the end result. Clearly, any player for any club can recognise how unbelievable Liverpool’s fixture with Barcelona in the semi-finals truly was, but it will be nice for Reds’ fans to see an Everton player explaining how impressed he was regarding their situation.
