Rafael Camacho is on the verge of agreeing a deal to join Sporting CP and ending his association with Liverpool, according to Record.

The Portuguese newspaper claims that Sporting have already convinced Camacho, 19, to head to Lisbon this summer and they have also made a breakthrough in negotiations with Liverpool as the Reds have finally lowered their £8.9million asking-fee for the attacker.

It is understood that Camacho is in the final year of his contract at Anfield and he has already rejected the chance to sign a new deal with the Merseyside giants.

Liverpool are said to be keen on including a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that will take Camacho to Sporting, that could end up costing the Portuguese club up to £5.4million.

OPINION

Liverpool need to ensure that they agree a sell-on clause in Camacho’s switch to Sporting. Although he only ever made two first team appearances for the Champions League winners, Camacho is still a player that has a lot of potential and could become worth much more than what Sporting are paying for him this summer. Liverpool cannot really do a lot to get much money for the Portuguese attacker because he’s in the final year of his contract and reportedly refusing to sign a new agreement, so if they don’t sell him this summer, he’ll more than likely go for free in a years time. Although getting £5.4million for the winger isn’t ideal, having that sell-on clause in place is a great way to ensure they can make some cash off him in the future. Sporting is a great club at developing young players, so Liverpool are bound to make more money off the 19-year-old in the future after a few years in Liga NOS.
