Liverpool winger Rafael Camacho is edging closer to leaving Anfield as the Reds close in on agreeing on a fee and terms with Sporting CP for his signing, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese publication claim on their website that the Merseyside outfit have made progress in coming to an agreement over the attacker’s value and that the player’s willingness to seal a reunion at the Portuguese side has been significant in the proposed move taking place.

Camacho has only featured twice for the Reds’ first team since breaking through their youth and reserve system and looks set to be returning to the club where he emerged as a youngster before moving to England with Manchester City.

Opinion

As is so often the case with young footballers, Camacho will be a case of what might have been for the Reds – although his record is nothing to make the Anfield faithful feel like they are losing someone special. He has just one minute of Premier League action under his belt and his first start for the club ended in a 2-1 defeat to Wolves in the FA Cup. He might have scored eight goals in 18 appearances for the under-23s but there has been no sign of the 19-year-old truly making a mark on the first team and with a Champions League title to try and retain, not to mention their pursuit of a first Premier League title, they cannot afford to be taking gambles on the likes of Camacho. Maybe he will be able to make a name for himself back at his very first side and prove Liverpool they were wrong to let him go. However, it sounds as though he is keen to leave Anfield and so this is a move in the interests of all parties.
