Adrian Durham claimed that Liverpool and Manchester City would benefit from the services of Bournemouth attacker Callum Wilson.

The talkSPORT host shared that while he didn’t think the 27-year-old forward was capable of replacing Sergio Aguero at Man City or Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, he could provide good competition and be a success off the bench.

Durham shared he thought Wilson was the perfect signing for those top clubs and that the player may be tempted to join a side where he could actually win trophies.

“I think differently to you (Darren Gough) because I think that with the injuries he has had, he may think that playing week in week out that playing 38 games plus whatever in cup competitions may actually be beyond him,” said Durham on talkSPORT (Friday, June 21st, 17:09).

“So I think, bearing in mind he might want to win something in his career, so he might think to himself if I can get a move to a Manchester City or a Liverpool, and by the way I think both would take him, if you’re talking about someone who comes in if your main striker is injured or provides competition, or comes off the bench…I think he is the perfect signing for those top clubs.

“I’m not saying he replaces Aguero or replaces Salah and I think Liverpool need those options and Man City could benefit from it, I don’t think they need those options…it wouldn’t be a bad thing, and he’d end up with medals from his career.

“And he may think that’s the way forward.”

OPINION

Wilson is a talented player whose proven in the Premier League but do the Reds need him? Durham claims the Reds need to add to their attacking options, whereas Man City don’t need to but would benefit from Wilson, yet it’s hard to see why he thinks that. Liverpool already have Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Divock Origi and even youngster Rhian Brewster waiting in the wings when it comes to their attacking options. The Reds scored 89 goals in their 35 league outings, granted Man City scored more as they racked up 95 goals, so they weren’t exactly short in that department. While it’s hard to deny that Wilson is a player who would get you goals if signed as he scored 15 in 33 outings in his 2018/19 campaign and was involved in a whopping 42% of Bournemouth’s league goals (Source: Transfermarkt). The Reds don’t want to splash money just because they can and with West Ham plotting a £35million move for the Cherries attaacker, as reported by The Sun, it doesn’t suggest he’ll be a cheap option to take up.
