Liverpool have made an 11th hour move to steal Sporting Lisbon playmaker Bruno Fernandes from their fierce rivals Manchester United, according to journalist Pietro Balzano Prota.

The Italian claimed on his personal Twitter account on Sunday that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were very close to completing a swoop for the Portugal international.

However, the Reds have ‘interfered’ at the last minute, leaving Fernandes’ move to Old Trafford in serious doubt.

It’s thought that the 24-year-old has been dreaming of a move to the Premier League since childhood, and must now decide on which north west team he wants to join.

OPINION

Well, this is a bit of a surprise. While Liverpool have routinely been linked with a move for Fernandes for some time now, it was thought that Jurgen Klopp wasn’t likely to splash out this summer having spend bucketloads a year ago. Signing the Portuguese star would very much constitute splashing out. However, it appears that the Reds are interested, so much so that they have made a last minute bid to try and steal him from United. Obviously the Liverpool fans will always be in favour of snaring a player from the claws of their most hated rivals, but Fernandes ticks plenty of boxes without the United factor. He is a tremendous footballer, a goalscoring midfielder who scored 32 times and grabbed 18 assists this season. If Klopp can bring him to Anfield then it would represent a phenomenal signing, especially if it means that he shuns a move to Old Trafford at the last minute.
