Klopp will trust in Brewster

Jurgen Klopp will not sign a striker this summer so as to not block Rhian Brewster’s path to Liverpool’s first team, according to the Echo.

The teenager is still yet to make his first team bow for the Reds, but was an unused substitute in the Champions League final win over Tottenham at the beginning of the month.

And the Echo claims that his manager does not intend to buy an out and out centre forward during the current transfer window, despite the fact that Daniel Sturridge is set to leave the club at the end of the month.

Klopp will instead put his faith in Brewster as a backup to his current first team options.

OPINION

This is a big show of faith from Klopp. Brewster has the potential to be genuinely world class, but he will only ever realise that potential by playing regularly. Klopp will know that better than anybody, and it would appear that his intention is to give Brewster the chance to prove himself at the top level. Surely he would have had his chance before now, had it not been for injuries that have kept him sidelined all season. The fact that he was on the bench against Tottenham shows just how much Klopp thinks about him, and that kind of experience, even though he didn’t get on the field, will be invaluable further on in his career. If he can stay injury free this season and get some senior football under his belt, who knows just how far the youngster can go at Anfield.
