Leeds United have pulled the plug on pursuing Liverpool attacker Ryan Kent after having an offer knocked back, according to Football Insider.

The reliable football outlet claim that Leeds have accepted that they won’t be able to entice the 22-year-old winger to Elland Road as he either wants a permanent move or a loan back to Rangers.

Football Insider report that Liverpool want between £10-12million for Kent, a figure which out of Leeds and Rangers’ reach, so his future may take some time to sort out.

However, Football Insider’s report states that Kent privately feels he is unlikely to break into Jurgen Klopp’s ultra-competitive senior squad ahead of the new season.

OPINION

Well it seems that Leeds are going to miss out on adding a talented attacker to their books to aid their promotion bid and the Reds have been dealt blow by seeing a team drop out of the race for him. After all it’s in Liverpool’s best interest for Kent to have as many suitors as possible, as that will help them get the best price for him if they decide to sell him. Yet based on this report, it seems they may have to settle on loaning him out for another season. This is because Football Insider’s report only mentions Leeds and Rangers being in pursuit and both of them are already incapable of matching his price tag. Kent clearly needs a temporary exit at the very least, as he is right to worry about breaking into Klopp’s senior team. The 22-year-old winger may have scored nine goals and assisted six in his 43 outings for the Gers last season, but that doesn’t mean he should leapfrog the likes of Divock Origi, who scored important goals in the Champions League, or Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane when it comes to Klopp’s attacking options. However after coming on leaps and bounds at Ibrox, after all he was involved in 16% of their league goals (Source: Transfermarkt), it’ll be a shame if he is reduced to playing U-23s football again.
