Liverpool are not interested in signing Alex McCarthy or Dorukhan Tokoz this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds were first linked with a move for Southampton stopper McCarthy by a report in the Daily Star, but the Echo suggests that while he was a target for former manager Brendan Rodgers, Jurgen Klopp is not interested in him.

As for Tokoz, the 23-year-old Turk was touted as potential target by Fotomac, but the Echo refutes any suggestion that he is on the Reds’ radar at all.

OPINION

To be honest, not too many fans will lose that much sleep over these two rumours being quashed. Neither player is exactly a world beater, and while Liverpool could do with cover in both positions that they fill, you would expect the Reds to be able to attract a higher calibre of player. It’s hard to see Jurgen Klopp going wild in the transfer window this summer, but there are certain positions that will certainly need reinforcing. Another goalkeeper will be a must if Simon Mignolet goes, and with Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge both on their way out of the club, a full-back and a forward wouldn’t go amiss either. Whether Klopp looks to spend big or whether he specifically aims to bring in second string players remains to be seen, but either way, you would expect movement of some kind at Anfield before the window snaps shut.
