Liverpool are in a transfer tug of war with fierce rivals Manchester United and Arsenal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jacob Brunn Larsen, according to the Daily Express.

The newspaper claims that the three Premier League giants are all eyeing the Denmark international, who enjoyed a breakthrough season with the German giants last term.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp actually signed the player for Dortmund when he was in charge in 2015, and he now seemingly wants to bring him to Anfield.

The 20-year-old scored three times in 30 appearances and has impressed scouts with his displays in the Bundesliga.

OPINION

This seems like a bit of a stretch, doesn’t it? You can understand why United are keen on the player as they look to continue a frantic rebuild this summer, but Liverpool simply don’t need Larsen. Klopp’s attack is set for years to come, with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane firmly entrenched as the starters. The German also has Divock Origi employed as their back up, where the Belgian excelled last season. So would Larsen really play regularly ahead of those four players? You’d have to say the answer is no. Klopp clearly has an affinity with the Dane, having signed him for Dortmund as a very young man, but that doesn’t mean he needs to bring him in to his current side. With United and Arsenal also interested, the Reds would likely have to pay a pretty hefty fee to sign Larsen. Given that he doesn’t operate in a position of need for Klopp’s team, it would be pointless to splash the cash on him this summer.
