Liverpool are ready to offer manager Jurgen Klopp a £3million-per-year pay rise after he guided them to Champions League success last Saturday, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Reds hierarchy are prepared to increase his current £7million-per-year contract to a staggering £10million-per-year.

They may also offer to extend the length of his deal, which at the moment has three seasons left to run. This comes after Klopp’s team defeated Tottenham Hotspur to take the club’s total of European Cup triumphs to six.

OPINION

This should come as no surprise to anyone after what Klopp has achieved since coming to Liverpool. The Reds were down in the doldrums when the German arrived on Merseyside, but he has carefully restored them to the pinnacle of European football. This was his third European final in charge of the club, while they have been steadily improving in the Premier League year on year as well. Ultimately they were unable to secure the league title this season, but they ran Manchester City incredibly close in arguably the finest title race the top flight has ever seen. While not all the credit should be given to the manager, he is the most crucial figure in the revitalisation of the Reds. He has guided them back to the top and so he deserves improved terms. £7million-per-year isn’t bad in the first place, of course, but as a token of the club’s gratitude it makes sense to give him a raise.
