Liverpool are in the hunt to re-sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona this summer, according to Le10Sport.

The French news outlet says that Manchester United and Chelsea, if they can overturn their transfer ban, are also interested in signing the 27-year-old, who is seriously considering a move away from the Nou Camp after an underwhelming season and a half in La Liga.

It is understood that Barcelona are not opposed to Coutinho leaving them this summer.

Le10Sport adds that the Brazil international earns £200,000-a-week on his deal with the Spanish giants.

OPINION

Coutinho was brilliant for Liverpool. Before he quit Anfield to join Barcelona in January 2018, he had scored 54 goals and supplied 45 assists in 201 total appearances. However since he has left Merseyside, the Reds have improved to feature in two Champions League finals, winning one, and finishing as runners-up in the Premier League with a record points haul. Coutinho may have won two La Liga titles in a row at the Nou Camp, but he has by no means been a star player for the Catalan side. The Brazilian started just 22 league games last season and in his 54 appearances across all competitions, he only scored 11 goals and supplied five assists. While those stats don’t look terrible, when you’re playing for a team that boasts Lionel Messi and is widely seen as the best in the world, those stats are not up to scratch by any means. Liverpool have moved on from Coutinho now, that much is clear. If they want an attacking midfielder, they should look elsewhere for younger and potentially cheaper alternatives.
