No chance of Liverpool re-signing Coutinho

There is no chance of Liverpool re-signing former Reds playmaker Philippe Coutinho this summer, according to Marca.

The Spanish outlet claims that Jurgen Klopp’s team have moved on from the 48-cap Brazil international, despite him lighting it up during his five years at Anfield.

The Liverpool manager has other priorities this summer, and it’s thought that a new centre back to partner Virgil van Dijk is what he really wants.

OPINION

Firstly, it’s no surprise that Liverpool don’t want to make a move for Coutinho this summer. They have indeed moved on from him and the team has undoubtedly improved since he left for Catalonia. That’s no slight on him, more a compliment to Klopp, the players and the recruitment department at Anfield. Where would he fit in this current Reds side? The front three are firmly entrenched in the line up, while he couldn’t really fit into the midfield trio in the current formation either. You probably could sort something out where he’s in there along with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, but it’s just unnecessary given how much it would cost to bring him back. More interesting is the centre back tid-bit. Klopp already has Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren ready to partner Van Dijk, as well as hugely exciting youngster Ki-Jana Hoever, so does he really need another centre half this summer? Probably not, but that’s apparently what he’s after.
