Wolves look as though they could miss out on signing Liverpool attacker Rafael Camacho this summer after it was reported that he is close to an agreement with Sporting CP.

According to a report by Portuguese newspaper Record, the 19-year-old is close to agreeing a five-year deal with Sporting and Liverpool have also lowered their demands in regards to the player’s valuation.

It is understood that the Reds were standing firm on their £8.9million asking price, but they could now end up getting just £5.4million for the teenager, with a 20 per sell-on fee involved in the deal.

Wolves have reportedly shown an interest in Camacho earlier this summer, so Nuno Espirito Santo could be on his way towards missing out on signing yet another Portuguese player.

Football Insider reported in May that Wanderers were in pole position to sign Camacho, leading the likes of RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Sporting in the race for his signature.

However Sporting now look to have stolen a march on Wolves.

It remains to be seen whether or not Wolves have dodged a bullet here or have missed out on the chance to sign a potential star of the future.

Camacho only ever made two first team appearances for Liverpool and while he is widely seen as a right-sided winger, his only ever start for the Merseyside giants came when he played at right-back in the FA Cup defeat to Wolves last season.

If he can play as a right-sided wing-back then he might have actually provided some good cover for Wolves’ Matt Doherty, who lit up the Premier League with his performances in that position last term.

Luckily for Wolves, the Republic of Ireland international never got injured because Nuno does not have anyone else who can play naturally in that role.

Was Camacho someone that Nuno was eyeing up to potentially play a back-up role behind Doherty? We might never know now that the Liverpool teenager is reportedly on the verge of agreeing terms with Sporting CP.
