Brazilian club Fluminese have cemented a verbal agreement with Liverpool to extend Allan Rodrigues De Sousa’s loan spell at the club until the end of 2019, according to Globo Esporte.

The Brazilian news outlet claim on their website that the Reds had an agreement in place with the South American side over allowing the 22-year-old midfielder to remain for another six months when his original loan deal ended at the end of June.

It is stated that Fluminese have triggered that extension deal and that Allan will remain playing in his home country until the end of the year.

Opinion

Work permit issues have meant that the Anfield faithful are yet to see just what the promising Brazilian has to offer and he needs to keep playing regular football at the highest level to have any chance of a future on Merseyside. The feeling might well be that playing and impressing in Brazil could help catch the eye of the national selectors, with international game time a factor which could help him get the required documents to play in England. It is not like Liverpool are in desperate need of midfielders right now, with the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho still riding the wave of their Champions League victory. Perhaps when 2020 comes around Jurgen Klopp will take a good look at Allan and decide whether he has the ability and quality to make a name for himself at Anfield. Right now, he is looking like a wasted purchase and as he gets older, the need for regular action at the highest possible level becomes more and more important. Whether this extended loan spell away from the Reds can help him forge a future at the club remains to be seen.
