Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo has revealed what Ryan Kent told him about Rangers ahead of his loan move to the Glasgow giants.

The Reds wide man, who left Anfield for Ibrox on a temporary deal earlier this month, is following in the footsteps of his fellow Anfield youth graduate, who spent the entirety of last season playing under Steven Gerrard during his first season as the Light Blues’ manager.

With Kent set to kick off pre-season at Liverpool, Ojo already at Rangers for an early start to his summer preparations, the Gers loanee revealed what his predecessor had been raving about after his year in Scotland.

He told the Scottish Sun: “Every footballer needs that opportunity to feel loved and Ryan showed that last season when he had the backing of the manager. He had a great season and became a favourite with the fans. Hopefully I can do the same and show everyone what I can do.

“I spoke to him before I joined and he said he loved it up here. He spoke highly of the staff, the players and the fans. He said that from every point of view it was the best loan you could have. As soon as Rangers wanted to sign me I didn’t have anything to think about. It was straightforward.

“I can’t control any of the stuff about the possibility of Ryan coming back but if he came then it would be just like in the academy. Hopefully we can be tearing up the league.”

Opinion

Ojo cannot go around getting the Ibrox faithful’s hopes up like that. Kent’s return to Rangers looks a long way off at the moment and it looks set to be a transfer saga which goes on for all of summer. Gerrard would love to have the Liverpool man back at the club, that much is for sure, but that is a task easier said than done. It seems that Kent’s impressive performances might well have priced him out of a return to Glasgow and that Ojo has taken his spot. The Rangers fans, players and coaching staff, not to mention the attacker himself, will be hoping that he can replicate his Liverpool teammate’s impressive form when he does line up for the first time under Gerrard, with some big boots to fill. Will he be calling Kent his teammate once again before the summer is over? That much remains to be seen.
