Wycombe Wanderers attacker Adebayo Akinfenwa bumped into Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson while on holiday in America and uploaded a picture with him to Instagram.

The 37-year-old Wycombe forward, who is a known Liverpool supporter, attached a cheeky caption to his picture with Henderson as he claimed that he had basically held the Champions League trophy as he held the midfielder up and only three weeks ago the Reds captain was lifting the Champions League trophy.

“International link up with this Legend, 3wks ago @jhenderson was holding the @championsleague trophy, & in this pic I’m holding him so if u think about it I’ve basically held the trophy too,” wrote Akinfenwa via his personal Instagram.

Henderson didn’t seem to take any notice of the cheeky caption and replied to Akinfenwa’s picture in order to share that it was good to see him.

“Good to see you mate,” wrote the Reds captain, via his verified Instagram account.

OPINION

Akinfenwa showed off his support for Liverpool by dubbing Henderson a legend and didn’t hide his excitement over bumping into the 29-year-old midfielder by his sheer amount of hashtags. However, what Liverpool fan wouldn’t be happy to bump into Henderson after he helped guide his side to a 2-0 win over Tottenham in the Champions League final mere weeks ago? While the midfielder has often proved to be Marmite amongst supporters, the image of him lifting the trophy for the club is one that all fans can admire and appreciate when it comes to Henderson. The 29-year-old played 44 times across all competitions in his 2018/19 campaign, and racked up one goal as well as five assists in his outings. Three of Henderson’s five assists came in the last six league games of the season, after Jurgen Klopp opted to play him in a more advanced role. When you consider that Henderson has only managed a total of 45 assists in the 324 outings he has made in total for Liverpool, it’s easy to believe he would have more to his name if he had played as an attacking midfielder rather than a midfield enforcer in recent seasons. Henderson only started 55% of the Reds’ league game in his latest campaign and you wonder if he’ll get more game time next season if Klopp opts to continue playing him further forward.
