Jamie Carragher and journalist James Pearce had a cheeky exchange on Twitter about Liverpool potentially signing Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe.

The exchange about the 20-year-old PSG forward happened after Pearce revealed he was leaving the Liverpool Echo as Carragher quickly remarked he hoped the reporter would be around to break the news about Mbappe joining on July 1st.

“Good luck James & I like that you’re hanging around for a month doing nothing just so you can break the Mbappe stuff on July 1st,” wrote Carragher via his verified Twitter account.

Pearce then joked back that he had seen the Paris St Germain attacker in the Tesco on Park Road so a deal looking promising, before adding a wink emoji to make clear he was just being cheeky.

“Thanks mate. Saw him in the Tesco on Park Road before so looks promising,” replied the journalist on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

It would stun everyone if Liverpool sign Mbappe this summer even though the superstar winger hinted, as covered the Evening Standard, that he could be potentially seeking an exit from PSG as he would cost a ludicrous amount. This is because Mbappe is already perceived as being one of the best players in the world despite only being 20-years-old and destined to improve. Mbappe helped France win the World Cup in 2018, and picked up the young player of the tournament in the award for his efforts, so this highlights how good he is. The 20-year-old also had a fantastic 2018/19 campaign with PSG following the World Cup as he scored 39 goals and assisted 17 in his 43 outings. Mbappe was directly involved with 40% of PSG’s goals in Ligue 1 (Source: Transfermarkt) and 45% of their goals in the Champions League. While the Reds arguably have three fantastic attacking options in the form of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino; it’s very fair to say that Mbappe is so good, he could knock one of them out of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans. However, the chances of him arriving, do seem very slim despite Carragher and Pearce joking about it.
