Rangers have the advantage in the race to sign Liverpool winger Ryan Kent this summer, according to Sky Sports pundit Darren Bent.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Ibrox, and won the Scottish PFA’s Young Player of the Year award.

But he also been linked with a move to Yorkshire this summer, as reported by Leeds Live, and Bent has delivered his verdict on where he believes the wide man could end up.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “You’d have to say Rangers have got the advantage because he’s been there already.

“He’s been there already and knows Steven Gerrard so he’s comfortable there. You talk about Leeds, they’re one of the big clubs in this country, looking to get promoted.

“It’s such a tough decision because some people go you’re playing for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, others saying the Championship is like the Scottish Premiership and it’s Leeds and it’s a harder standard.

“If it was me and I knew Steven Gerrard, played there last season, he wants me back again, I’d be more inclined to stay where I’m at because there’s not too many changes.”

OPINION

You can see both sides to this argument. On the one hand, Kent had a fantastic season in Scotland last year, and his Young Player of the Year award is testament to that. Playing under Steven Gerrard is never going to hinder a young player’s career, especially when that player has aspirations of representing Liverpool, and Kent is adored by the Ibrox faithful. On the other hand, Leeds are a big club, and one that could perhaps offer him something a little bit different, and a more immediate path into Premier League football, were he good enough to help them win promotion. There’s no doubting the size of United, and all things considered, it could be a smart move. Does that mean that Kent will make it? Of course not. There is every chance that he will rock up in Glasgow again next year, and you couldn’t blame him if he did.
