Bobby Duncan sent his new Liverpool teammate Harvey Elliott a message after the Reds’ 3-0 loss to Napoli to congratulate him on making his debut.

Liverpool confirmed, via their official website, ahead of the pre-season clash against Napoli that they had acquired the services of Elliott from Fulham and the 16-year-old ended up coming off the bench to feature against the Serie A side.

Following the defeat, Duncan used his Instagram story in order to send Elliott a five-word message to mark the teenager’s debut for the Reds in a non-competitive game.

“Congratulations on your debut,” wrote the Reds forward.

OPINION

Elliott may have only featured for 12 minutes against Napoli, but it was a memorable cameo appearance. The teenager looked full of confidence and lively upon coming on, which was more than some of his senior teammates looked. Elliott will clearly be hoping to impress during the upcoming training camp in Evian, and if he shines bright then it won’t be a surprise if he is one of the youngsters to be around the first-team in the upcoming campaign. The Reds have avoided making high-profile, big-money, signings thus far in the summer window and if that remains to be the case, then Liverpool fans will be eagerly expecting Elliott to wow sooner rather than later. While the attacker is still only 16-years-old after becoming the youngest player to feature in the Premier League last season with Fulham, as per the BBC, he will be held to a higher standard than other players in his age bracket.
