Jamie Carragher would “love” to see Phillipe Coutinho back at Liverpool this summer.

The 27-year-old Brazilian left Anfield last January to join Barcelona in a £142 million deal, but has been linked with a return to Merseyside this summer, as reported by North Wales Live.

Speaking to Pundit Arena, Carragher has advocated the move.

He said: “I still think they can improve in midfield. I still think they could add a creative player.

“They tried to sign one last season in [Nabil] Fekir and he’s actually gone this summer for a lot cheaper.

“I said it before, I’d love to see Liverpool bring back Coutinho back if that was possible in any way. Obviously it hasn’t worked out for him at Barcelona. I just think that would be a great addition.”

OPINION

You’d have to agree with Carragher on this one. Coutinho broke a lot of Red hearts when he left for Barcelona last winter, but if he were available, Liverpool who’ll surely have to make a move. The Brazilian was one of the most special players to have graced the Anfield turf over the past couple of decades, and the impact he had on the side was massive. The Reds have invested well with the money raised from his departure, and that has meant that his exit hasn’t been felt keenly as it might otherwise have been, but now that the squad has the solid foundation of a goalkeeper like Alisson and a defender like Virgil van Dijk, the prospect of adding Coutinho into that mix is a mouthwatering one. Even in a relatively quiet season like the one he endured last year, the playmaker still managed a pass rate of 87.9% and a shots per game average of 2.5 [Whoscored]. What an addition he would be.
