Leroy Fer sent Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum a message on Instagram after the Reds star shared a clip of the unique handshake he has with Jurgen Klopp.

Wijnaldum uploaded a clip of him doing a specialised handshake with the Liverpool manager in order to celebrate returning to Melwood ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

“Good to be back with the family, Let’s get ready for another big season,” wrote the Reds midfielder, via his Instagram.

Fer, who is a free agent after being released by Swansea City, seemed impressed by Wijnaldum and Klopp’s handshake as he sent a three-word message to the Liverpool midfielder.

“Handshake on point,” said Fer, via his verified Instagram account.

OPINION

Fer seems delighted over Wijnaldum’s unique handshake with Klopp, and Liverpool fans should equally be as happy to see it. This is because it shows the close bond Klopp has with Wijnaldum as a handshake like that surely comes from a lot of practice. Klopp constantly trusted Wijnaldum to deliver the goods in his 2018/19 campaign and the midfielder didn’t let the German boss down. The 28-year-old featured 35 times in the Premier League last season, racked up three goals, achieved an impressive pass success rate of 91.9% and averaged a rating of 6.89 across his league outings (Source: WhoScored). Wijnaldum may not be one of the Reds’ headline stealing players, but he is clearly a vital cog in Klopp’s machine based on how often he is utilised. It’ll be interesting to see if the 28-year-old starts getting the praise he deserves if the Reds continue to add to their trophy cabinet in the coming seasons.
