Mark Goldbridge took a subtle dig at Arsenal by claiming Liverpool were the “only big club” touring America this year.

The Manchester United fan and host of the United Stand, a YouTube show which has 508,065 subscribers, shared he didn’t realise Manchester City were touring Asia, not America this season, which means Liverpool are the only big club in the USA for pre-season.

“Didn’t realise City were touring Asia as well. So Liverpool are the only big club touring America this year,” wrote Goldbridge via his personal Twitter account.

However, given that Liverpool aren’t the only top-six Premier League team in America as Arsenal are currently on a four-match tour of the country, as per BBC Sport, it seems the YouTube personality was using Liverpool to take a shot at the Gunners.

Goldbridge then made his dig clearer as he responded to a fan to deny that he simply had forgotten that Arsenal were in America, as he pointed out he was only talking about big clubs.

“I said big club. Don’t disrespect my comment again lol,” wrote the YouTuber.

OPINION

It may only be pre-season but it seems Goldbridge is ensuring the rivalry between Manchester United and Arsenal is kept well and truly alive during the break from domestic football. While Goldbridge hasn’t been afraid to take cheap shots at Liverpool in the past, due to the club’s fierce rivalry with the Reds, it seems he was happy to praise the club on this occasion. However, while Liverpool fans will finally be able to agree with a tweet by Goldbridge, it’s probably only a matter of time before he attempts to moan about Jurgen Klopp’s side. Yet Liverpool supporters likely will be unphased by that if their club continues to do better than Manchester United in the upcoming season. In the 2018/19 campaign, while the Reds were finishing second in the Premier League and lifting the Champions League trophy, Manchester United were having another mediocre campaign. Man United finished sixth in the league and ended their season with 21 points less than Klopp’s team.
