Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has rejected the chance to join a new club this summer and will remain at Bestikas to see out the rest of his loan deal.

Karius, 26, joined the Turkish giants on a two-year loan last summer but it would seem as thought he had the chance to end his stay in Istanbul prematurely as his agent offered him a route back into English and German football.

“This season, my agent offered me two clubs from England, and three clubs from Germany. I rejected them all. Because Besiktas is very special for me,” said Karius, as quoted by Turkish news outlet Sporx via their official Twitter account on Monday.

Karius made 35 appearances in all competitions for Bestikas last season, helping them to achieve a third-place finish in the Turkish Super Lig.

OPINION

Karius has settled down well at Bestikas and is playing regularly, so why would he want to quit? Of course the German shot-stopper would prefer to get his career back on track in a major European nation, but he had a terrible stint at Liverpool and seeing out the rest of his loan deal is the best thing that he can do. If Karius continues to impress then maybe he’ll find himself a good club that will sign him once his loan spell in Turkey ends. It’s clear that the former Mainz player does not have a future at Anfield. He was always an error-prone goalkeeper and his performance in the Champions League final last year was about as disastrous as they come. Luckily Liverpool won the European title just a year later and banished all memory of Karius’ shocker against Real Madrid. Hopefully Karius – and potential new clubs – will soon come to forget about that as well.
