Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster, claiming that he loves the Kop starlet.

The teenager is still yet to make his competitive debut for the Reds, but has enjoyed a stellar preseason, and is widely expected to be heavily involved in his manager’s plans next term.

And Klopp has made no secret of his admiration for the forward.

As quoted by the Independent, he said: “I love the boy, he is fantastic player. Why should I play it down?”

“Rhian Brewster is a top striker, he is a top talent and I have told him already that he has an important role this year – but how important depends on him.”

OPINION

Jurgen Klopp is no stranger to doling out the affection, but even by his standards this is a big statement of his intent. This Liverpool side is special, and it will take a very impressive player to break through from the youth academy. By all accounts, Brewster is that player. He may have been held back by injury last season, and he may still be yet to make his bow in a competitive fixture, but the fact that he was included in the match day squad for the Champions League final, not to mention his free scoring exploits in preseason, should surely be enough to ensure that he gets a fair crack of the whip with the senior side this term. Realistically, Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi are ahead of him in the pecking order, but now that Daniel Sturridge has gone, there should be plenty of opportunity for him to make his mark, especially with his manager talking about him in such favourable terms.
